WHAT IS A RAM USED FOR?

RAM is mainly used to:

  • Run programs and applications.

  • Store temporary data while tasks are being performed.

  • Improve system performance and multitasking.

  • Load the operating system and keep it running smoothly.



PARTS OF A RAM

(Main Components):


Memory Chips: These are the actual chips where the data is stored.

PCB (Printed Circuit Board): The green board that connects the memory chips to the computer.

Gold Contact Pins: These connect the RAM to the motherboard.

SPD Chip (Serial Presence Detect): A small chip that provides information about the RAM to the system (like size, speed, type).



WHICH RAM WOULD I USE?


For basic use (web browsing, documents, videos):
8 GB DDR4 is usually enough.

For gaming or heavier tasks (photo/video editing, design):
16 GB or 32 GB DDR4 or DDR5 would be better.

For professionals (3D rendering, software development, multitasking with large apps):
32 GB or more, preferably DDR5 if your motherboard supports it.



TYPES 0F RAM

1. DDR (DDR3, DDR4, DDR5)

-Uso principal: Memoria RAM de PCs, laptops y servidores

-Por qué es importante: Es la RAM estándar en casi todos los dispositivos modernos.

-Diferencias entre versiones:

DDR3: Más antigua, aún en algunos sistemas viejos.

DDR4: Muy común, buen equilibrio entre velocidad y consumo.

DDR5: Más rápida y eficiente, usada en PCs de alto rendimiento y nuevas generaciones.

2. LPDDR (Low Power DDR)

Uso principal: Dispositivos móviles, tabletas y ultrabooks.

Por qué es importante: Es la RAM usada en smartphones (ej: LPDDR5).

Ventaja clave: Consume menos energía, ideal para baterías.

3. GDDR (Graphics DDR)

Uso principal: Tarjetas gráficas (GPUs)

Por qué es importante: Memoria dedicada para videojuegos, edición de video y IA.

Ejemplos: GDDR5, GDDR6, GDDR6X

4. SRAM

Uso principal: Memoria caché del procesador (L1, L2, L3)

Por qué es importante: Es muy rápida, aunque cara. No la ves ni la cambias, pero es vital para el rendimiento del CPU.

5. ECC RAM (Error-Correcting Code)

Uso principal: Servidores, estaciones de trabajo, sistemas críticos.

Por qué es importante: Corrige errores de memoria automáticamente.
